FOOD AS MEDICINE
BRING HEALING HOME
Is your digestion sluggish? Are you feeling toxic and chemical sensitive? It may be that your phase III detox system is not up to speed. Give your digestive system a spring clean and stimulate your liver/ gall bladder function to help effectively eliminate toxins, metals and bacterial byproducts. Spices have been used traditionally to aid digestive function for millennia. The most effective and well researched include coriander seeds, cumin seeds, cardamon, fenugreek and fennel seeds with ground fresh or dried ginger. They are gentle yet powerful in their effects- increasing bile flow, improving pancreatic & intestinal enzyme function and thus break down of foods, reducing bloat and gas production. They are known too as free radical scavengers reducing oxidative damage. For those with weak or sluggish digestive function they can negate the need for any further digestive support and should be trialled first before enzymes or Hydrochloric acid supplements.
Caraway, Fennel and Anise seeds have been shown to assist in restoring microbial balance. Make a tea to sip following meals or saute good amounts (1 Tbs of each) in ghee or coconut oil as a base for curry. Heres to happy tummies.
